La decisione presa dall’omologa della comunicazione russa Roskomnadzor di bandire Telegram all’inizio di aprile sta interessando molti più servizi oltre alla semplice app di messaggistica.
Il 17 aprile, il corpo ha confermato di aver bloccato milioni di indirizzi IP, citando la loro potenziale utilità per gli utenti di Telegram di eludere il divieto.
Google ha confermato oggi a TechCrunch (23 aprile) che alcuni dei suoi servizi proprietari sono stati influenzati negativamente dalla repressione dell’IP.
La società ha dichiarato di indagare sui rapporti secondo cui gli utenti russi non erano in grado di accedere ad alcuni prodotti Google, con Gmail, notifiche push Android e ricerca Google tra le funzionalità con cui gli utenti incontrano problemi.
Il regolatore russo ha annunciato ufficialmente il blocco sui servizi di Google oggi tramite un post di Facebook. Un certo numero di altri servizi di alto profilo sono stati influenzati anche da Google, da Slack e Nintendo a SoundCloud e Spotify.
Secondo il COO e co-fondatore di Vee Security, Ilya Andreev, fino a 2 milioni di utenti vengono supportati da un servizio proxy, che l’azienda sta fornendo.
Il blocco di massa degli indirizzi IP si sta verificando nel tentativo di frenare Telegram da saltare da un indirizzo IP a uno nuovo quando uno è bloccato dalle autorità Roskomnadzor.
Un’altra app, Zello, ha fatto ricorso a IP-hopping per quasi un anno fino a quando le autorità hanno iniziato a bloccare l’accesso a intere sottoreti di indirizzi IP per frenare la pratica e aziende come Google hanno chiesto a Zello di fermarsi per sbloccare altri servizi.
Secondo l’agenzia di stampa russa Tass, il 22 aprile Roskomnadzor ha rilasciato la seguente dichiarazione sui servizi Google: “Ad oggi, Google non ha soddisfatto le richieste di Roskomnadzor (Servizio federale per la supervisione delle comunicazioni, delle tecnologie dell’informazione e dei mass media) e, in violazione del verdetto del tribunale, continua a consentire alla società Telegram Messenger Limited Liability Partnership di utilizzare i suoi indirizzi IP per attività nel territorio russo.
“A causa di ciò, Roskomnadzor ha incluso nel registro delle informazioni vietate un certo numero di indirizzi IP di Google, che vengono utilizzati da Telegram per svolgere la sua attività in Russia.”
Il divieto deriva dal rifiuto di Telegram di consegnare le chiavi di crittografia al servizio di sicurezza federale della Russia, con i precedenti citando i diritti alla privacy e il fatto che tali chiavi erano memorizzate sui dispositivi dei milioni di utenti di servizi in Russia.
